Obituary: Martha Ellen Smith Roach Brown, 80, of Kannapolis went to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 3, 2013 at Tucker Hospice House following a short illness. She was born February 19, 1933 in Iredell County, NC daughter of the late Lewis Edgar Smith and Mary Elizabeth Hamilton Smith. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, James M. Roach in 1974, and her second husband, Marvin Lee Brown in 2010. She was employed at Cannon Mills, Pt. #1, spinning room and also did private duty nursing. Martha was a member of God's Church of Faith and a member of the Senior Lady's Sunday School Class. She was a long time piano player, playing a various churches, nursing homes, funerals and weddings. Survivors include two sons; James Roach(Vickie) of Kannapolis, and Mike Roach(Joyce) of Landis, one daughter, Barbara Palmer of Concord, three step-sons, Tony Morgan of China Grove, Bobby Brown(Debbie) and Tim Brown both of Kannapolis , one step-daughter, Teresa Brown Barnhardt of Kannapolis, sister, Katherine London (Richard) of North Wilkesboro, 10 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and her loving canine companion "Crissy". Services will be 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, November 6, 2013 at God's Church of Faith conducted by Rev. Jeff Upright. The body will lie in state at the church 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends at Whitley's Funeral Home Tuesday from 6:00-8:00 P.M. Interment will follow Unity United Methodist Church Cemetery.
