Martha Sharon Horton Garmon, 86, a resident of Clapp’s Convalescent Nursing Home in Asheboro, passed away on Friday, January 31, 2025, at Randolph Hospice House surrounded by her family. Martha was born September 4, 1938, in Concord to the late Glenn Howell Horton and Janie Burrage Horton.
Martha graduated Concord High School in June of 1957, and on December 21st of the same year, she married the love of her life, Sanford Dewey Garmon, Jr. They enjoyed 45 years of marriage and raising a family together until Sanford passed away in June of 2003.
Martha attended Evans Business College and worked as a typist in Cannon Mills.
Shortly after, she began her journey as a loving homemaker and Mother. Martha devoted her life to her husband and children and made sure their daily needs were met. And as her children started families of their own, she was actively involved in caring for her grandchildren too.
Martha loved taking trips with her family and she always had her dog, Ellie Mae, by her side; whom she adored. She also enjoyed reading, good conversation, she loved good food, shopping, and occasionally took ceramics classes. Martha loved tending to things; she enjoyed her projects around the house and her flowers in her front yard. She was a former member of Concord First Assembly and recently attended Thomasville Church of God with her family.
Along with Martha’s parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her infant brother, Glenn Howell Horton, Jr. Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Sanford Keith Garmon (Marta) of Corona Del Mar, California, Kelly Zeigler of Denver, NC, Kristen Latham (Robert) of Sophia, NC, and Kerry Garmon of Mooresville, NC; her four grandchildren, Anna Zeigler, Caroline Zeigler, Ryan Edwards and Rinnah Edwards; and her great grandson, Knox Henry Greer.
A graveside service will be held, Friday, February 7, 2025 at 3:00PM at Carolina Memorial Park in Kannapolis. Pastor Alan Greene of Thomasville Church of God will be officiating.
