Martha Jean Smith Jones, 72, of Charlotte passed away peacefully on Monday, July 20, 2020 at Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center.
Jean was born on May 2, 1948 in Cabarrus County to the late Judea Fortner Smith. In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her sister, Lois “Skipper” Ingram.
Jean attended Wingate University and received a Bachelor’s Degree. She was a lifelong member of Bethpage Presbyterian Church, where she continued to support even when she became unable to go. She was a fan of fine arts and loved to go see ballets, operas, and plays. Her favorite place to eat was Chick-fil-A. She had a special place in her heart for cats. She loved to take walks at Freedom Park and will be missed by many good friends in Charlotte. Most of all, she loved and cared for her family.
Those left to cherish her memory include her niece, Kim Sexton; great nephew, Justin Ingram and children Jackson, Lucas and Tyler Ingram; great nephew, Matthew (Carrie) Brown and children Allison and Christopher Brown, and brother-in-law, Charles Ingram.
Services will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bethpage Presbyterian Church, 6020 Mooresville Road, Kannapolis, NC 28081.
