Martha Nance Smith

Obituary: Martha Nance Smith, 72, of Concord, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, August 22, 2012 following a brief period of declining health. Martha was born on February 25th, 1940 in Mecklenburg County a daughter of Neelie Steele Nance of Miami Beach, FL., and the late Fred C. Nance. In addition to her father, she is preceded in death by her husband, Virgil L. Smith who died November 3, 2011. She retired from Jefferson Pilot where she was employed as an office administrator. She was a contestant in the 1958 Miss Charlotte Beauty Pageant and played for the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra from 1960 to 1964 as a 2nd violinist. She enjoyed painting and floral arranging and attended Harvest Community Church. In addition to her mother, Martha is survived by a son; Fredrick Morris Smith and wife Tina and their children, Grayson and Devin, a daughter; Sheri Smith Bradford and husband, Britt and their children, Jessica, Sarah, and Gabrielle, a great grandchild; Ashayah, sisters; Delores Grimm and husband Nigel of Woodstock, GA., and Nina Haas and husband Steven of Miami Beach, FL., and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Saturday, August 25th, 2012 at Harvest Community Church in Concord with Pastor Jeff Burris officiating. Burial will take place at Evergreen Cemetery in Charlotte at 3:30 PM with Pastor Mike Thevenin officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon to 1:00 PM on Saturday at the church prior to services. Family suggest memorials be made to Harvest Community Church, 4284 Orphanage Rd., Concord, NC 28027
