Obituary: - Martha Louise Pressley Vereen, age 88, died Friday, May 20, 2016 at Big Elm Retirement Center, Kannapolis, NC after a period of declining health. She was born March 11, 1928 in Cabarrus County, NC, the daughter of the late Bruce and Lizze Pressley. Louise was employed seamstress working with several hosiery mills over the years until her retirement. She was a member of Concord Pentecostal Holiness Church, Concord, NC for many years. Louise loved to play piano, sing, and play solitary through the years. She also loved to go picnicking and was very church oriented giving to charities over the years. She even collected cards as a hobby and cooked great meals for her family. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by William W. Vereen; and seven brothers and sisters. The funeral service to celebrate her life will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, May 22, 2016 at Whitley's Funeral Home Main Chapel, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Marvin Goodnight. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis, NC. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM Sunday at the funeral home prior to the service. Survivors include her son, Thomas Vereen & wife, Mary of China Grove, NC; a step-son, William E. Vereen of Wilmington, NC; a step-daughter, Gwen Longcrier of Wilmington, NC; one granddaughter, Tiffany Hightower & husband, William of Kannapolis, NC; two great-grandchildren, Joseph Hightower and Sarah Hightower, both of Kannapolis, NC; a step-granddaughter, Jean Pinkston of Forest City, NC; and a step-great-grandson, Cameron Durham of Forest City, NC; and two brothers, Sam Pressley & wife, Libby of Landis, NC and Luther Pressley of Florida.
