Obituary: Martin Earl Allen, age 87, died Monday, August 2, 2010 at the Levine & Dickson Hospice House, Huntersville, NC after an extended illness. He was born August 10, 1922 in Cabarrus County, NC, the son of the late Shelly K. Allen and Nellie McClamrock Allen. He was a 1939 graduate of J.W. Cannon High School. Earl was employed with the former Cannon Mills Company, Plt.#1 as a lab technician for 35 years until his retirement in 1985. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Kannapolis, NC where he was active in many phases of church activities. Earl retired from the U.S. Air Force as a Lt. Col. and was a fighter pilot flying P47's during WWII. After the war he continued flying as a flight instructor and as a commercial pilot. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife, Jane Whitten Allen, who died February 6, 1999. The funeral service will be 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 4, 2010 at Whitley's Funeral Home Main Chapel, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Judy White. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis, NC. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home prior to the service. Survivors include his son, John Allen & wife, Teresa; a granddaughter, Allison Allen Harper & husband, Zac; and two great-grandchildren, Kinsley and Caleb Harper; six nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 416East First Street, Kannapolis, NC 28081 OR the Levine & Dickson Hospice House, 11900 Vanstory Drive, Huntersville, NC 28078.
