Obituary: Marvin Eugene "Gene" Brinkley, 85, of Kannapolis died Monday, September 19, 2011 at CMC-NE after a period of declining health.His funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM Wednesday, September 21 at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Rickey Oxford officiating. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11 to 12:00 PM Wednesday.Marvin was born February 7, 1926 in Cabarrus Co., a son of the late Calvin and Ruby Miller Brinkley. He was a life-long area resident and a member of Shadybrook Baptist Church. "Gene" worked for many years at Holbrook's Radio and TV store as a repairman. Later, he was employed by Cannon Mills, as an AC repairman.In addition to his parents, "Gene" was preceded in death by an infant daughter and his wife, Edna Outen Brinkley and his son, Stephen Wayne Brinkley.He is survived by his son, Phil Brinkley of Greenville, NC and 3 grandchildren; Matthew Brinkley of Kannapolis, Brian Brinkley of Greenville, NC and Dawn Jennings (Sam) of Brevard and 3 Great-grandchildren. Also surviving are 2 sisters, Margaret B. Mitchell (Frank) of Harrisburg and Gertrude B.
