Mary Alice Fields Combs

Obituary: Mary Alice Fields Combs, 75, of 817 West A Street, passed away Sunday, October 17, 2010 at her residence following a long period of declining health. She was born October 3, 1935 in Iredell County, daughter of the late R D and Larue Mitchell Fields. She was educated in the Kannapolis City Schools and later graduated from Rowan Technical College in Concord. Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, October 20, 2010 at Whitley's Funeral Home Main Chapel conducted by Rev. Jimmy Barnhill. Internment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 P.M. Tuesday, October 19, 2010 at Whitley's Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the residence. Mrs. Combs worked at Fieldcrest-Cannon for 29 years until she retired in 1991 due to her health. She was a very special Lady and was known for her good home cooking. She was very much loved by her family and she dearly loved her family and friends. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Franklin "Shorty" Combs, one daughter, Dale Combs Jones and her husband , Morris "Moses", one son, David Franklin Combs and his wife Vickie, all of Kannapolis. Grandchildren, Amanda Duplisea and husband Chris, Daniel Combs, Mathew Lisenby and wife Kody, T.J. Allman, Casey Combs, and Hunter Combs. Great Grandchildren: Ethan and William Lisenby, Megan and Caden Duplisea. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Sue Fields Howie, a daughter, Betty Dean Combs, a son, Dawayne Combs, and a granddaughter, Mary Elizabeth Lisenby. Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Cabarrus County, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC 28081. Whitley's Funeral Home is serving the family of Mrs. Combs.
