Mary James Coughenour

Obituary: Mary James Coughenour, age 84, passed away on February 16, 2015 at her home after four weeks of declining health. Mary was born December 8, 1930 in Cabarrus County, NC, the daughter of the late Edgar Brewer James and Dorothy Shoemaker James. Mary was employed for many years with the former Cannon Mills Company, Plant One, until her retirement in 1993. She was a member of Homestead Baptist Church, Kannapolis, NC for many years also. She is fondly remembered by family as a woman devoted to her family, always loving to read, and crocheting. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by three sisters, Louise Johns; Carol Carter; and Kay Honeycutt; and one brother, Buddy James. The funeral service will be held at 12:30 PM Thursday, February 19, 2015 at Whitley's Funeral Home Main Chapel, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Keith Navey. Entombment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park Plaza Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 11:00 to 12:30 PM Thursday at the funeral home prior to the service. Survivors include her husband of sixty-five years, Charles P. Coughenour, Jr. who was known by many as "Jukebox Charlie."; her two sons, Charles P. (Rick) Coughenour, III (Terrie) of Salisbury, NC; Steve (Tammy) Coughenour of Joliet, Illinois; her daughter, Vickie (Randy) Hileman of Kannapolis, NC; her five grandchildren, Leila (Victor) Faries of Salisbury, NC; Amber (Chason) Ward of Statesville, NC; David Newman of Virginia; Kevin (Ashley) Hileman of Concord, NC; and Nick Coughenour of Joliet, IL; her four great-grandchildren, Victor & Katie Faries; Colton Ward; and Madison Hileman; and her sisters, Pat (S.M.) Cline of China Grove, NC; Mickie (Butch) Wilhelm of Rockwell, NC; Judy Fagan of China Grove, NC; and Sandra (Frank Gadsden) Payne of Indian Trail, NC. The family would like to say a special thank you to Terrie Settlemyer for the dedication and love that she showed to Mary during this most difficult time.
