Mary Virginia Dwiggins

Obituary: Mary Virginia Christy Dwiggins of Kannapolis died peacefully at home on May 30, 2018 after a long illness. Mary was born on March 24, 1930. She was the daughter of Henry Lewis Christy and Thelma Annie Proffitt Christy. In addition to her parents, Mary was predeceased by two brothers, Paul E. Christy and Henry Cornelius Christy. She leaves her loving husband of 68 years, Hoyle "Bob" Dwiggins, son, Timothy Wesley Dwiggins of Kannapolis, daughter, Sheila Ahearn (Mark) of Myrtle Beach SC, grandchildren Jeremy Dwiggins, Jason Dwiggins, Patrick Ahearn and Kevin Ahearn as well as many nieces and nephews. Mary was born and raised in Kannapolis, NC. She was a loving mother and grandmother and is known by many as a "second" mother. Mary was very giving and first and foremost always put others first. She has been a caregiver for many family members and friends over the years. Mary worked in Cannon Mills for thirty years in plant #6 sheet department. She was an avid gardener and loved to sit on the porch swing and watch "her birds". Until her declining health, Mary was an active member of North Kannapolis United Methodist Church, especially the prayer group. A celebration of life will be held at North Kannapolis United Methodist Church at 3:00 pm on Sunday, June 17, 2018, officiated by Ron Hartman. The family will receive friends from 2:00 - 3:00 pm prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to North Kannapolis United Methodist Church.
