Obituary: Mary L. Goodnight Flowe-Spicer,62, of Lentz Rd. China Grove went to be with her Lord from her home with her family at her side on Thursday, May 2, 2013 after a lengthy, but courageous battle with cancer. Mary was born June 10, 1950 in Salisbury, a daughter of the late William G. and Melva Schenk Goodnight. She was a lifelong area resident and a member of New Hope Presbyterian Church. When her health permitted Mary was active in the church, teaching Sunday school, serving on the congregational care committee and the Women in the Church group. Mary worked over 35 years for Bank of America in many departments, from the mail room to being a VP and then operations manager. She also worked for Travis Spicer Integrity Flooring and briefly with H&R Block. In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her 1st husband, Jim Flowe in 1995. In 1999 Mary was blessed by God and fell in love again and married her 2nd husband, Jeffery S. Spicer of the family home. She is also survived by her sons; Steven G. Flowe (Joni) and Chris L. Flowe (Sara), both of China Grove, her sisters, Sharon Ratledge of Salisbury and Linda Jane Murphy (Richard) of Kannapolis, her brother, Gary Wayne Goodnight of Kannapolis, her sister-in-law, Rebecca Kay Flowe of China Grove and her grandchildren, James Riley Flowe, Layla Lane Flowe and Ashley Mae Flowe and many other loving relatives. We will celebrate her life with her family receiving friends at Whitley's Funeral Home from 7:00 to 9:00 PM on Friday, May 3 and then her funeral at 1:00 PM Saturday, May 4 at New Hope Presbyterian Church in China Grove with Rev. James Byers officiating and burial following in the church cemetery. At other times the family will be at the family residence in China Grove.
