Mary Ann Vickers Goodman

Obituary: Mary Ann Vickers Goodman, age 83, passed away on Monday, March 6, 2017 at Tucker Hospice House, Kannapolis, NC after one year of declining health. She was born June 18, 1933 in Cabarrus County, NC, the daughter of the late Ardis L. Vickers, Sr. and Mary Pearl Orr Vickers. Ann was a 1951 graduate of the former J.W. Cannon High School. Ann worked as an operator for the former Concord Telephone Company for 43 years until her retirement. She was life-long member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Kannapolis, NC where she was active with the Fran Boone Circle, past-president of the Wesley Fellowship, and active with the United Methodist Women. Her family especially remembers her love of cooking, entertaining friends, and making floral arrangements and wreaths. Also, she and her late husband, Tom, enjoyed dancing at the Cabarrus Senior Center and traveling. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Thomas King Goodman, who died January 4, 2012; a brother, Ardis L. Vickers, Jr.; and a sister, Adderine Vickers. The funeral service to celebrate her life will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, March 9, 2017 at Trinity United Methodist Church, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Revs. Kirk Tutterow and Tracy Love. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis, NC. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at Whitley's Funeral Home, Kannapolis, NC. Survivors include her nephew, Ardis L. Vickers, III & wife, Michelle of Locust, NC; a great-nephew, Evan Vickers; a sister-in-law, Elsie Vickers of Kannapolis, NC; various cousins including Helen Stallings, Peggy, Charles, and Julian Brooks, and Jennifer Edmisten of Zionville, NC; and special thanks to her caregiver, Millie Phillips Fink of Kannapolis, NC.
