Married to the love of her life for 63 years, Mr. Henry Clayvan Hawkins, now deceased, is lovingly remembered as a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother ("Me-Maw"). Born on September 15, 1921 to Elizabeth Pearson James Fowler and Thomas Larkin James, Mrs. Hawkins attended the Kannapolis City Schools and worked for Cannon Mills for more than 35 years. Mrs. Hawkins is survived by her son, Henry Clayvan Hawkins, Jr. and his wife, Virginia of Durham; her daughter, Mary Lou Hawkins Perry of Kannapolis; sisters and brother, Edna James Bumgarner, Shirley Fowler Stottman, Judy Fowler Leazer, Kay Fowler Johnson, and Bobby G. Fowler, all of Kannapolis; four grandchildren, Dennis William Perry of Durham, David Eugene Perry of Charlotte, Kelly Regina Hawkins Fields of Burlington, Ronald Spencer Hawkins, wife Beth of Durham and four great-grandchildren, Brooke and Kathryn Fields and Hannah and Owen Hawkins. Mary's best friends, Sally Hollick, Jennifer Hollick, and Teresa Beaver have brought fun, laughter, cookies, and love for many years. Veneka Cannon Thompson is especially remembered for her loving keep-your-independence style of care giving for many years. In addition to being a dedicated member of Midway United Methodist Church, Mrs. Hawkins enjoyed working in the yard, listening to her radio, dancing with Clayvan and watching her favorite TV shows. Family and friends are invited to celebrate Mary's life and attend a graveside Memorial Service, arranged by Whitley's Funeral Home of Kannapolis, at Oakwood Cemetery in Concord on Friday, May 18, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. The Reverend William Van Wieren III, Associate Pastor of Midway United Methodist Church will officiate the service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Hettie Womble Circle of Midway United Methodist Church, 108 Bethpage Road, Apt.
