Mary Pethel Nix Hunter

Obituary: Mary Pethel Hix Hunter, 87, of Concord died Saturday, June 30, 2012 at CMC-Northeast Medical Center following a period of declining health. She was born April 29, 1925 in Cabarrus County, daughter of the late Carl Bryan and Connie Peck Pethel. Mrs. Hunter was a member of Kimball Memorial Lutheran Church. She was employed with Concord Telephone (later Windstream Communications) as an operator retiring with 21 years of service. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Joe D. Hix in 1961 and her second husband, Franklin M. Hunter in 2010. Funeral services will be 2:30 P.M. Tuesday, July 3, 2012 at Kimball Memorial Lutheran Church conducted by Mike Johnson. The family will receive friends in the church commons from 1:00-2:30 P.M. Tuesday prior to the funeral. Interment will follow in Carolina Memorial Park. At other times they will be at the residence of her daughter, Mary Jo Snipes of Kannapolis. Survivors include a daughter, Mary Jo Snipes of Kannapolis, a son, Mike Hix of Columbia, SC, a stepson, Richard Hunter and wife Roxanne of Concord, and a sister, Dorothy Dearmon and husband Norris of Kannapolis. Mrs. Hunter is survived by six grandchildren: Lauren Holland (Jim), Bryan Snipes (Kim), Joel Snipes (Shelly), Alan Hunter, Tara Hunter, and Rebecca Foley (John), and five great grandchildren: Gill, Henry, and Bennett Holland, Blaine Snipes and Diana Foley. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Kimball Memorial Lutheran Church, History Room Fund, 101 Vance Street, Kannapolis, NC 28081.
