Mary Katherine (Howell) White

Mary Katherine Howell White, 83, of Kannapolis, passed away Friday, May 21, 2021 after a period of declining health. Born March 22, 1938 in Cabarrus County, she was the daughter of the late Homer and Myrtle Harvell Howell.

Mary had a green thumb, loved growing flowers, especially roses, cooking, with the favorite dessert being cherry yum-yum, watching it snow and eating popcorn. Enjoyed sewing, making clothes, curtains, afghans and placemats. She also loved the beach and traveling to the mountains, and collecting lighthouses. Of all of her trips, the Disney Trip was the family favorite. Mary was a great financial organizer. A woman of strong faith, she attended Kannapolis Church of God and sang in the quartet.

Mary is survived by her children Melinda Boyd and husband Todd of China Grove and Eric White and Wife Katherine of Salisbury; six grandchildren, Angela White, Erica White, Kelly Stevenson and husband Kevin, Mandy Kluttz and husband Chad, Jessica Boyd and Bryan Boyd; nine great grandchildren, Josh and Anna Moneymaker, Kaylee Rhinehardt, Myra Harold, Chyanne Rayfield, Kyle, Kyndra and Kelsey Stevenson and Lily Kluttz; and a brother, Billy Howell and wife Bobbie.

Aside from her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, William M. White in 1992, and two brothers Jimmy and Gary Howell.

A funeral service to honor Mary’s life will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday, May 25, 2021 at Whitley’s Funeral Chapel, Kannapolis. Dr. Greg Sloop and Rev. Demps Overcash will officiate. Interment will follow in Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:00 - 2:00 PM prior to the service at the funeral home.
