Obituary: Mary "Belle" Goodnight King, age 84, of Kannapolis died Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at CMC-NE after a period of declining health. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 PM Monday, January 28 at Memorial United Methodist Church with Rev. Jim Brookshire officiating. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will be at her home, 905 Hoke St. with calling hours, Sunday 3:00 to 5:00 PM, otherwise family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:30 PM on Monday in the church fellowship Hall. Belle was born May 2, 1928 in Rowan Co., a daughter of the late H. Neal and Ida Boger Goodnight. She graduated from Landis High School in 1945 and then from Presbyterian Hosp. School of Nursing-Charlotte in 1948. Her specialty was Pediatric Nursing and worked in various hospitals across NC, OH and MD. Belle then taught Diversified Health Occupations in Cabarrus Co. Schools and Washington Co. Vocational School, Marietta OH. Belle was a beloved and faithful member of Memorial United Methodist Church; active in the Women's Circle, the choir, Sunday School, Bible study and was a certified Lay speaker. She sang with Singing Saints, she tutored at Fred L. Wilson Elementary School and volunteered with Cooperative Christian Ministries. Belle was a devoted mother, sister and friend and will be dearly missed. In addition to her parents, Belle was preceded in death by her husband, James M. King in 1995 and her sons; James E., Jeffrey A. and J. Peter King, her 4 brothers; Henry L., Lloyd, Harold and Richard Goodnight and her sister Beatrice Goodnight. Those left to cherish her memories include her son, Tom King and his wife, Cindy of Mason, OH, her sisters, Anne Goodnight Vaughn and Betty Goodnight McCorkle and husband, Harold of Rockhill, SC. and many nieces, nephews and other loving relatives.
