Obituary: Mary Travis London, 98, of Kannapolis went to be with her Lord on Sunday, June 22, 2014 at Tucker Hospice House following a period of declining health. She was born May 12, 1916 in Catawba County, NC a daughter of the late Noah Allen Travis and Effie Mae Canipe Travis. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Charlie Leroy London whom she married December 10, 1938. She was also preceded in death by thirteen brothers, four sisters and Tanya J. London; a granddaughter. Mary was the loving and devoted mother of four children: Daughter, Myra L. Overcash and husband, P. Manuel Overcash of Kannapolis, son; Charles R. London and wife Patricia A Doran of Burlington, Vermont; daughter, Nena L. Adams and husband Paul T. Adams of Kannapolis, son, J. Reid London and wife Faye W. London of Clemmons, NC. She is also survived by nine grandchildren; April Baucom, Angie Overcash, Chris Overcash, Jennifer Smith, Michel Prior Donna London, Paula Gilleland, Rodney Adams, and Tisha J. London. One Step Grandchild: Kevin Como, eight Great-grandchildren: Kristen Jenkins, Kourtney Baucom, Travis Millard, Maggie Millard, Hailey Overcash, Finnley Smith, Gracyn Gilleland and Charlee Adams. Two Step great-grandchildren; Debbie Harrison and Jeff Baucom; two great-great grandchildren, London Jenkins and Owen Jenkins; four step great-great grandchildren, Sarah Harrison and Jacob Harrison, Jack Baucom and Erika Small. She is also survived by one sister, Charlotte T. Cranford of Newton, NC. Mrs. London was employed by Cannon Mills and later retired at age 62 from Troutman Shirt Company. She joined Unity United Methodist church in 1939. She was active at the church, serving as a Sunday School Teacher, Youth Leader, Member of the church choir, Member of the UMW and served as Secretary and treasurer, she served on the Board as long as she was able to attend church. She also served on the Parsonage Committee, Health Cabinet, worked with the Unity Mobile Meals Program in the kitchen and making meal deliveries, she also went on mission trips to Kentucky, New Orleans and Tarboro, NC. One thing she always wanted to do in her life was to ride in a hot air balloon. Her children made that possible for her at age 94. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Friday, June 27, 2014 at Unity United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Tim Whittington. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday, June 26, 2014 from 6:00-9:00 P.M. at the church. At other times they will be at the residence of Mrs. London. Memorials may be made to Unity United Methodist Church Building Fund or to Unity United Methodist Church Mobile Meals Program, 8605 Unity Church Road, Kannapolis, NC 28081.
