Mary Nell (Bostian) Mccarn

Mary Nell Bostian McCarn, 92, of Mooresville, joined her Heavenly Father on Sunday morning, March 19, 2023, from Atrium Health Cabarrus.

Born November 27, 1930, in Rowan County, she was a daughter of the late Mitchell and Dorothy Leazer Bostian.  In addition to her parents, Mary Nell was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Brown; brothers Charlie, Robert, Jack and Delbert Bostian; and a son-in-law, Will Johnson.

Earlier in life, Mrs. McCarn was employed by NCSU and Cannon Mills, later working for Kannapolis City Schools System for more than 20 years. She attended West Corinth Baptist Church as long as her health permitted.  Very active her entire life, Mary Nell was a loving and devoted wife, mother, mamaw, great grandmother and sister. Her family was her life and she loved them all, always making sure everyone had everything they needed. Her children recall rising early on Saturday mornings to hunt for arrowheads and old bottles. Her grandchildren fondly remember her always making sure they had a full belly, having plenty of her canned food to take home, along with a glass of sweet tea.  She also enjoyed gardening, canning, cooking, puzzles and was a collector of many things. Mary Nell never met a stranger, loved everyone and although in a much better place today, she will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Loving family members include her husband of 71 years, Charles Ray McCarn; her children, Terrie Johnson, Marie Corn (Aaron) and Hubert McCarn; beloved grandchildren, Brittany Vanstrom (Tim), Dustin Johnson (Katie), Courtney Price (Harper), Zac Johnson (Andrea Efird), Nick Corn (Ashley), Jessica Shue (Preston), Kristi Brawley (Shawn) and Houston and Dylan McCarn; 13 great grandchildren; her sister, Salee Upright; brothers, Clyde (Frances) and Grady (Peggy) Bostian; sisters-in-law, Karry, Claudine and Sharon Bostian; nieces, nephews and extended family members.

The family will receive friends Saturday, March 25th, from 10:00-12:00 pm at Whitley’s Funeral Home.  Services to remember and celebrate Mrs. McCarn’s life will begin at 12 noon in the funeral home chapel, conducted by Pastor Jeff Upright.  Burial will follow the service at Carolina Memorial Park.
