Obituary: Mary "Lydia" McManus Winecoff, 95, of Kannapolis, NC left this earthly life at Tucker Hospice House to be with her loving Lord and Savior on January 2, 2015. She had been in declining health for many years and seriously ill for 3 weeks. The funeral will be at Center Grove Lutheran Church on Monday, January 5 at 2:00 PM. Her body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service at the church. The family will receive friends from 6pm to 8pm on Sunday, January 4, 2015 at Whitley's Funeral Home. She was born in Kershaw County, SC on May 6, 1919 to the late Harvey Jackson McManus and Mittie Patricia Gordon McManus. She was predeceased by her Husband of 43 years, Aubrey O. "Bob" Winecoff in 1983, her daughter Synthia W. Brooks, and granddaughter Monica Dawn Brooks in 1980. She was the last of her siblings of 4 brothers and 2 sisters. She is survived by her daughter Janyce Winecoff Roy of Kannapolis, Grandson Dr Garrett "Gary" J. Roy (Chrystal ) of Charlotte, Granddaughter Audra R. James (Jimmy) of Kannapolis; Great Grandchildren JoAnna R. Laws of Kannapolis, Garrison Roy of Charlotte, Tyler Bailey of Fort Bragg, NC, Spencer and Connor Roy of Little Rock, AR; Great-great- grandchildren, Nicholas, Allyson and Emma Laws of Kannapolis; and a special faithful friend, Doris Simril of Kannapolis. She was a member of Center Grove Lutheran Church since 1940. She was active in the church life until her health started failing. She taught the 3 & 4 year old Sunday School Class, 3rd Grade Weekday Church School, and was Secretary/Treasurer of her Sunday School Class for 13 years. She was on the Evangelism Committee and Music and Worship Committee for many years. She also organized the Greeters and Nursery League for the church. She was an athlete and like being competitive in her sports. She played softball with the Womens Softball team from Cannon Mills. She organized the Womens Duck Pin Bowling league in Kannapols in 1950. She was the first vice president of the North Carolina Duck Pin Association. When Duck Pin Bowling ended she changed to the Ten Pins. She was Woman Bowler of the year in 1993. She won many awards and tournaments in her bowling.
