Obituary: Mary Anne Smith Wright, 84, of Kannapolis died at Transitional Health Care in Kannapolis of Friday, March 30th after a period of declining health. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, April 3rd at Bethel Wesleyan Church in Kannapolis with Rev. Joe Harding officiating. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:00-2:00 before the service. Mary Anne was born August 20, 1927 in Cabarrus Co., a daughter of the late E.N. Smith and the late Helen Gertrude Smith Chester. She was a life-long area resident and long-time employee of Cannon Mills Co., where she worked in Plant #1 Sheet Dept. Mary Anne was an active member of Bethel Wesleyan Church. She loved to cook for family and friends. She was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother and will be dearly missed. In addition to her parents, Mary Anne was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Wright, Sr. in 2008, her daughter Diane Phelps and her sisters, Jane and Betty. She is survived by her son Leonard Wright, Jr. and wife Daryl of Concord, 5 grandchildren; Chris and Amy Wright, Tammy Clodgo, Clay and Corie Phelps and 6 great-grandchildren.
