Mattie Esther (Gardner) Baucom

Mattie Gardner Baucom, 99, of Denton, and formerly of Kannapolis, passed away July 16, 2021 at Randolph Hospice House. Born February 15, 1922 in Richmond County, NC, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Maude Warner Gardner.

Mattie spent her working years as a supply clerk at Burlington Industries.

Mattie is survived by her children, Robert Eugene Baucom and wife Phyllis of Marshville, Larry Neal Baucom and wife Sandra of Asheboro, Betty Ann Surratt of Denton, and Kaye Lowder of Albemarle; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Robert Gardner of Goldsboro.

Aside from her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Rev. Flave Eugene Baucom in 1988; two sons, Michael Wayne and Charles Ralph Baucom; four brothers, Harry, Eddie, Charlie, and C.B. Gardner; and a sister, Ruth Hartman.

A graveside service to honor Mattie’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 19, 2021 at Carolina Memorial Park. Pastor Gerald Ward will officiate. It was Mattie’s request that there be no public viewing.

The family would like to extend special thanks to her caregivers, Jolinda, Lanette, Ginger, Sheryl, and Jeremy.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that memorial donations be made to Randolph Hospice, 416 Vision Drive, Asheboro, NC 27203
