Obituary: Mattie Lou Byrd Lunsford, 101, of Kannapolis passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her daughter, Millie Austin on Sunday, Oct. 7, 2012. She was born May 1, 1911 in Madison County, Georgia, the daughter of the late Francis Wilson Byrd and Lula Matthews Byrd. She was preceded in death by her husband, J.C. Lunsford on July 4, 1979 and a daughter Marlene Kiser. She was the last surviving of 10 brothers and sisters. She retired from Cannon Mills Sewing Room where she worked for 48 years. She loved making homemade biscuits, doing yardwork, especially picking up her magnolia leaves and spending time with her family. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, Oct. 15, 2012 at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel officiated by Rev. George Yates. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Sunday at Whitley's Funeral Home. At other times they will be at her residence. She is survived by her daughter, Millie Austin, four grandchildren; Rushie Shue, Phillip Kiser, Robin Overcash and April Shoe, 6 great-grandchildren; Jamie and Jason Shue, Tyler Overcash, Bobby Kiser, Tabitha and Alexander Shoe, four great-great-grandchildren; Austin, Madalynn, Abigail and Eva Shue.
