Obituary: Mattie Cecile Chastain Murray, 80, of Kannapolis died Monday, August 22, 2011 at CMC-NorthEast. She was born April 24, 1931 in Madison County, Georgia, the daughter of the late George W. and Deedee Floyd Chastain. She retired from General Times in Davidson after 30 years. She was a member of Kannapolis Church of God where she had been heavily involved in the annual Dumpling Sales at the church. She was noted for her green coconut cakes. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, August 24, 2011 at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel officiated by Rev. Sam Crisp, Mr. Matthew Beaver and Rev. Jimmy Barnhill. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2:00 Pm Wednesday. She is survived by her husband, Willie Murray, Jr. , her sister Nell C. Human of Royston, Ga., nieces, nephews and cousins. Memorials may be made to Kannapolis Church of God, 2211 West A Street, Kannapolis, NC 28081.
