Obituary: Maudie Lee Burgess Burnette Ramsey, 89, of Kannapolis died Tuesday, December 11, 2012 at her residence following a period of declining health. She was born May 10, 1923 in Cabarrus County, NC a daughter of the late James Ellis and Verda Melinda Green Burgess. Mrs. Ramsey was a member of Mt. Zion Freewill Baptist Church and was a homemaker. She enjoyed gardening and cooking, quilting, canning and raising flowers. Her first husband, Banard Leonard Burnette and her second husband, Sidie Melon Ramsey, preceded her in death. Three sisters and four brothers also preceeded in death. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Thursday, December 13, 2012 at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Rev. Everette Cox and Rev. Steve Davis. Interment will follow in Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 6:00-8:00 PM Wednesday, December 12, 2012 at Whitley's Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the residence. She is survived by two sons, Leonard Burnette and wife Patty of Jacksonville, Fla., Rickie Ramsey and Fiancée Lisa of Kannapolis, two daughters, Mary Lee McCorkle and husband Jerry of Salisbury, and Vickie Jenkins and husband Ken of Millingport. Twenty-six Grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren also survive. The family would like to express their appreciation to Gentiva Home Health Care for the care and compassion shown to Mrs. Ramsey.
