Obituary: Max William Haynes, age 80, of China Grove died peacefully at his home on Saturday, November 12, 2016 after a period of declining health. A funeral to celebrate his life will be held at Whitley's Funeral Home at 1:30 PM Monday, November 14 with Rev. John Melton officiating. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. His family will receive friends at Whitley's Funeral Home from 12:30 to 1:30 prior to the funeral. Max was born January 12, 1936 in Rowan Co., the son of the late Ernest William Haynes and Leona Bradshaw Haynes. He was a life-long area resident and long-time member of Tabernacle Baptist Church. Max was a machinist that worked for different local companies primarily Wagner Manufacturers in Mt. Ulla. He also ran his own Machine shop. Max enjoyed fishing and racing micro-midget cars. He drove #9 and won many regional championships. Max enjoyed spending time with his 3 sons and will be dearly missed by all. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Joanne Adams Haynes, his sons; Randy Haynes (Debbie), Ricky Haynes and Robert Haynes (Donna) all of China Grove. He also has 2 grandchildren, Tabitha DeLacy and Jensen Haynes and 1 great-granddaughter, Saia DeLacy.
