Obituary: Mr. Max Kay Overcash, 78, of Kannapolis died Saturday August 15, 2009 at Lynchburg General Hospital in Virginia. He was born May 11, 1931 in Rowan County, the son of the late Thomas Walter Overcash and the late Mamie Fesperman Overcash. He was the last of eleven children of Thomas and Mamie Overcash. He was preceded in death by his wife Mildred Dalton Overcash. He was a retired truck driver having formerly worked at Akers Motor Lines and Food Lion, Inc. He was an active member of Mt. Moriah Lutheran Church in China Grove and enjoyed driving the seniors on their bus trips. He was a veteran of the US Army during the Korean War. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Friday August 21, 2009 at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel officiated by Rev. Joseph Tallent and Rev. Kay Overcash. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Thursday at Whitley's. He is survived by his step-son, Demps Brawley and wife Lois of Northeast, Md., his granddaughter, Davalyn Snider and husband Bill Snider of Havre-de-Grace, Md.,3 step-grandchildren: Scott Messer of Florida, Jacqueline Owens and husband Captain Rich Owens of Colorado and Sgt. Todd Messer and wife Sgt. Michelle Messer of Oklahoma, 5 great-grandchildren and his fiancé Rebecca R. Tinnell of Forest, Va. Memorials may be made to Mt. Moriah Lutheran Church 750 Mt.
