Max Hunter Smith, Jr., 69, of Kannapolis, passed away Friday August 6, 2021 at home. Born June 23, 1952 in Mecklenburg County, he was the son of the late Max Hunter Smith, Sr. and Peggy Howell Smith.

Max was a United States Marine Corps Veteran of Vietnam, stationed aboard the aircraft carrier Coral Sea, as an Aircraft Radar Technician. He spent his working years as an electrician. After retirement, he drove a delivery truck for NAPA Auto Parts.

Max loved spending time with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed watching old western movies and hanging out with his Chihuahua, Shorty.

Max is survived by his son Scott Smith and wife Valerie of Kannapolis; his step-daughtrer Teresa Muelleman and husband Robert of Salisbury; three grandchildren, Christian, Tyson, and Nathan Smith; a brother, Kevin Smith; two sisters, Deleslie Fulker and Melanie Smith; and his favorite canine companion, Shorty.

Aside from his parents, Max was preceded in death by his beloved wife Laura Kepley Smith.

A graveside service to honor Max's life will be held at 10:00AM Monday August 16, 2021 at Carolina Memorial Park. Military honors provided by the United States Marine Corps and Cabarrus County Honor Guard will be provided.
