Maxine Carter Johns, 82, of Salisbury, peacefully passed away at home, Wednesday morning, February 12, 2025, following a period of declining health.
Born October 4, 1942, in Concord, she was a daughter of the late Elbert John Carter and Pauline Johnson Carter. In addition to her parents, she was preceded by her husband, Bobby Hurst Johns; her sister, Lena Carter Gulledge; and a brother, Paul Elbert Carter.
A graduate of A.L. Brown, Maxine continued her education at Western Carolina. She then honorably served her country with the US Navy, where she was a dental nurse. Maxine later earned her master’s degree in nursing and retired from the Salisbury VA Medical Center, after more than 20 years of devoted service. Following her retirement, Mrs. Johns continued to enjoy the many friendships she developed while working at the VA. Maxine was a devoted member of Bethel Wesleyan Church. She loved her church and her church family.
Family members left to cherish her memory include her brothers, Robert Carter and John “Doug” Carter (Elaine); nieces and nephews, Tracey Gulledge, Wendy McManus (Tim), Scotty Gulledge (Rachel), Rodney Carter, Amy Giraldo (Andy), Samuel Carter (Alisha) and D’ata Carter; numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews; extended family members and many much loved, wonderful friends..
The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 22nd, from 1:00-2:00 pm, with the service beginning at 2:00 pm, at Bethel Wesleyan Church, 4036 Old Salisbury-Concord Road, Kannapolis. Burial, with military rites, will follow at Carolina Memorial Park, where she will be laid to rest beside her husband.
Memorials may be made in Maxine's name to Bethel Wesleyan Church or to Cabarrus County Veterans Honor Guard.
