Obituary: Maxine Watson King A courageous, loving and Godly woman joined her beautiful soprano voice with the other saints in Heaven's Choir on September 18, 2012. She was born October 4, 1922 in Rowan County to the late William Curtis Watson and Lola Glover Watson. Maxine was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 50 years, Z.V. King, Jr.; her son, Daryl W. King; and her grandson, Andrew D. King. Maxine was a joyful and active member of Center Grove Lutheran Church. She loved singing in the choir and served the church as a vital member of the Lutheran Church Women, where she served as president and treasurer. She was awarded a Life Member of the ELCA Church and WELCA Woman of the Year 1992 for outstanding service. Also, she served as a member of the church council and worked as church secretary. After graduating from China Grove High School in 1940, she attended Hunter College in New York City and joined the FBI in Washington, D.C. where she worked in fingerprinting and identification. During World War II, she served our country as a member of the WAVEs in the United States Navy. Following World War II, she received additional business training at Rowan Technical Community College and Evans Business College. She worked as a bookkeeper and office manager for the Independent Wholesale Grocery Company and the secretary of A.L. Brown High School Guidance Department. Since 1960, Maxine worked beside her husband, Z.V. King at King's Auto Body Company as his office manager and bookkeeper. Maxine was a member of the Eastern Star Eureka Chapter # 166 and received her 50-year pin. She served as chaplain and as a Star Point. She was blest with many dear friends. She enjoyed fellowship with many of them when playing bridge and going to the beach. Maxine was a sweet and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was dearly loved and will be missed by her daughter, Zebetta King of Kannapolis; her son, Barry King and his wife Bonny of Kannapolis; and her son, Butch King and his wife Brenda, of Kannapolis, and daughter-in-law Donna King Kimble and her husband Karl Kimble of China Grove. Her loving grandchildren include Chris King and his wife, Jamie H. King of Kannapolis; Todd King and his wife, Joni H. King of Wilmington, NC; Michelle K. Adams and her husband Rodney of Kannapolis; Suzanne K. Bost and her husband Chris of Mt. Pleasant; Lauren and her husband Cory Roberts of Kannapolis, and Lindsay King of Kannapolis; and Heather K. Ramseur and her husband Jared of Mooresville; Jonathan King of Kannapolis. Great-grandchildren include: Jayci and Shelbie Bost of Mt. Pleasant; Breanna, Makalyn, Jaden, and Ella Ramseur of Mooresville. Maxine is survived by her dear sister Nell W. Duncan of Cumming, Georgia. A Celebration of her life will be held at Center Grove Lutheran Church on Thursday, September 20. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Funeral services will begin at 7:00. Following the service, there will be a celebration of Maxine's life in the church fellowship hall. Private graveside rites will be held at Carolina Memorial Park on Friday, September 21. The family of Maxine W. King wishes to thank everyone for their prayers and support. They ask that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Center Grove Lutheran Church 1601 S. Visitation: The family will receive friends prior to the service from 5:00-7:00 p.m.

Service: A Celebration of her life will be held at Center Grove Lutheran Church on Thursday, September 20. Funeral services will begin at 7:00.

Interment: Private graveside rites will be held at Carolina Memorial Park on Friday, September 21.
