Obituary: Mayfield Price McClannon, age 93, passed away on Monday, December 1, 2014 at Best of Care Assisted Living, Kannapolis, NC. She was born January 29, 1921 in Cabarrus County, NC, the daughter of the late Freeling P. Price and Violet Mae Sims Price. Mayfield was a 1938 graduate of J.W. Cannon High School. Mayfield was employed with the former Cannon Mills Company, Plant One, Sheet Dept. for many years until her retirement in 1976. Mayfield was a faithful member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Kannapolis, NC for many years. Throughout the years she was a very devoted member of the Kannapolis Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star # 349 where she had served as Worthy Matron. She was secretary for the organization for many years and was presented her 50-year pin in July of 2014. Mayfield was also known as "Mother Mayfield" when she served as an advisor for the Rainbow Girls (associated with the masonic lodges) in Kannapolis for twenty-five years. She was an inspiration to many young women that went through the program during that time. In addition to her parents she is preceded by her husband, J. Sinclair McClannon, who died in 1990; one brother, David Price; and two sisters, Inez McDonald and Annie Price. The funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, December 4, 2014 at Trinity United Methodist Church, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Kirk Tutterow. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis, NC. The Eureka Chapter # 277 Order of the Eastern Star will have a burial service at the graveside. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:30 am Thursday at the church prior to the church service. Survivors include her son, M. Wayne McClannon of Lincolnton, NC; her daughter, Sylvia McClannon (Jim) Mason of Hendersonville, NC; a daughter-in-law, Frances McClannon of Concord, NC; one sister, Bertha (Arthur) Goble of Kannapolis, NC; three grandchildren, Jeanna McClannon, Jennifer (Dennis) Hardin, and Angela (Mike) Sandridge; five great-grandchildren, Mason & Schuyler Hardin, Kiley, Adin, & Ian Sandridge.
