Meda Wiser Snipes

Obituary: Meda W. Snipes, 74, died on Tuesday, November 3, 2015, surrounded by her family. Born January 24, 1941, Meda was the daughter of the late Dr. William James and Gussie Boss Wiser. She was preceded in death by her brother Julian Wiser of Garland TX. Survivors include her husband of 51 years, Dr. Stephen Mabry Snipes, local Optometrist; daughters Stephanie Snipes King of Concord and Clarissa Snipes Fowler of Tega Cay SC and 5 grandchildren, Alexandra Lynn King, Lindsey Elaine King, Andrew Phillip King, Lauren Nicole Fowler, and Caitlyn Brooke Fowler. Meda graduated from the University of Georgia with a BA in Home Economics and became a home economics teacher in Carrollton Georgia. In 1972, she moved to Concord and became employed at Cabarrus County Health Department as one of the first female health inspectors in the state of North Carolina. The last 12 years she was a self-employed owner of Another Time Around, a household goods and collectible shop on Buffalo Ave. in Concord. Meda was a member of the Central United Methodist Church. She devoted many fun filled hours as an alto in the church choir and served as a seamstress for the Old Courthouse Theater in Concord. Meda was an avid reader and animal lover. She was handy with home repair and maintenance. Meda liked to crochet, needle point, and sew. She was an excellent cook and loving wife and mother. Meda was most cherished as a comforter and encourager in sorrows and a lighthearted woman who loved to make you laugh with her sense of fun. A celebration of life service will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, November 8, at Central United Methodist church in Concord. Private interment of cremains will occur at a later date.
