Obituary: Melba "Rita" Blanton Clement, 72, of Kannapolis passed away Thursday, June 8, 2017. She was born September 13, 1944 in Cabarrus County, a daughter of the late Eliger and Melba Bullard Blanton. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Payne "Bill" Clement and a brother, George Blanton. Melba had retired from Cabarrus County Social Services where she worked for many years. She was a member of Jackson Park United Methodist Church where she was active with the United Methodist Women, Christian Fellowship Sunday school class, Gaynelle Joyner Circle and the Women Gone Wild group. She was also a member of the Carolina Girls group. Melba loved to travel, also loved her 'ritas and blackjack. Funeral services will be at 3:00 PM Sunday, June 11, 2017 at Jackson Park United Methodist Church officiated by Rev. Greg Gordon. The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 3:00 PM prior at the church. Entombment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. She is survived by two sons, Andrew Payne Clement and wife Shay of Davidson, Jeffery Payne Clement and partner, John Rogers of Atlanta, 3 grandchildren, Laurel Dare Clement, Branson Kurtis Payne Clement, Morgan Shay Clement brother, William Blanton, and sister, Grace Oehler. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Susan Komen Breast Cancer Awareness. www.komen.org and/or The National Kidney Foundation, www.kidney.org.
