Obituary: Melissa Watts Phelps closed her eyes here on earth and opened them to the glories of Heaven, Saturday, February 11, 2017. She was born in Cabarrus County to Glenn Watts and Sharon Seabolt Thigpen on April 25, 1975. Melissa was a generous and loving soul, who would do anything she could to help someone in need. She had a big heart and could brighten up a room with her smile. Gone too soon, she will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Melissa was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Drake and Mary Harrelson Seabolt, paternal grandparents, Roy and Ida Bell Brawley Watts; and a special uncle, Joe Seabolt. Left to cherish her memory in addition to her parents, are her daughters, Brooke Phelps (Travis Benfield), and Alison Phelps; her son, Blake Phelps; closest friend and father of her children, Ed Phelps; stepmother, Barbara Watts; her brother, Justin Watts and wife, Kassie; nephew, Drake Watts; stepbrother Michael Young and wife, Tracy, and their children, Kathryn and Mitchell; and a soon to be first grandchild, Cade William Benfield, as well as several uncles, aunts and cousins. A private family service will be held at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Pastor Marty Payton. To remember and celebrate Melissa's life, the family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6:00-8:00 pm at Whitley's Funeral Home. On-line condolences may be made to www.whitleysfuneralhome.com.
