Obituary: Mell Jenkins Allen Lunsford, 69, of Concord, went to be with the Lord on Friday, July 20, 2018 at Tucker Hospice House. Ms. Lunsford, often affectionately called Ms. Mell, was a preschool, and later elementary, teacher for over 30 years. A woman of God, Mell's steadfast faith defined her and helped shape the faith and lives of many that loved her. Her favorite pastime was to be with her family, especially her grandsons; her hobbies included fishing, arts and crafts, and music. She loved nature; whether it was a garden or just being under a porch during the rain, she would find peace. Her true "happy place" was the Beach and every time she left it, she would be planning the next trip. She was born September 9, 1948 in Guilford County, NC, a daughter of the late James Daniel Allen, Sr. and the late Dorothy Sprinkle Allen. Also preceding her in death was one of her brothers, Stephen Timothy Allen. Survivors include her two children, Tamara Lunsford Staehler of Kannapolis and Christopher Daniel Lunsford and wife, Anh, of Charlottesville, VA, as well as three grandchildren: James Allen (5 years), Lucas Chester (4 years) and Thomas Daniel (10 mos). She is also survived by four siblings; Brenda Robertson, Rev. James Daniel Allen, Jr., John Mark Allen and Anna Jones. All are invited to an outdoor Service conducted by Rev. James Allen, Jr. to be held in lieu of a traditional service at the Pavilion of Carolina Memorial Park at 9:00 A.M. on Tuesday, July 24, 2018. Entombment will follow in the Ridge Mausoleum at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Whitley's Funeral Home Monday, July 23, 2018 from 6:00 P.M.-8:00 P.M. Flowers can be sent to Whitley's Funeral Home in Kannapolis and those wishing to make donations in Mell's name, should donate to the Hospice and Palliative Care of Cabarrus County, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC 28081.
