Melva Shenk Goodnight

Obituary: Melva Shenk Goodnight, age 85, of 2480 Lentz Rd. formerly of 1000 Duke St. Kannapolis died Monday, January 18, 2010 at her daughter's home after a period of declining health. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday January 20, 2010 at Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery in Landis with Rev. Robert Howard officiating. Melva was born May 3, 1924 in Rowan Co. to the late Cleveland L. and Ella Athey McCoy Shenk. She was a life long area resident, preceded in death by her husband, William Grover "Bill" Goodnight, who died in 1989 and also by 4 brothers and 2 sisters. Melva was a homemaker to her family. She loved to dance and go to Yard sales. She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister. She will be dearly missed. She is survived by her daughter, Sharon G. Ratledge (Donnie) of Salisbury, her son, Gary Wayne Goodnight and her daughter, Linda Jane G. Murphy (Richard) both of Kannapolis and Mary G. Spicer (Jeff) of China Grove. She is survived by 7 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren and also her brother, Buddy Shenk and her sisters, Bernice Smith and Naomi Eagle. Whitley's Funeral Home is serving the Goodnight family.
