Obituary: Melvin Paul Faggart 89, passed away Monday, March 17, 2014 at Universal Health Care in Concord. Mr. Faggart was a member of First Baptist Church in Kannapolis; he retired after many years of service as a masonry builder doing work all over the area; he loved his family deeply and love to talk about his son and grandchildren. He loved and was a collector of Big Band Music; Melvin was an Army W.W. II veteran serving in the Battle of the Bulge, was a radio operator working along side the general sending false signals to the German Army. In later years after his military service he loved to keep in touch with his military group, meeting all over the country for reunions. Survivors include his wife, Bryte Brooks Faggart of 60 years; a son, Phil Faggart and his wife, Tammy of Concord; two grandsons, Phillip Faggart Jr. and Devin Faggart all of Concord; a brother, Rev. Bill Faggart (Dot) of New London, NC; a sister, Doris Gillon of Winston-Salem, NC; a niece, Diane Faggart of New London and a nephew, Whit Gillon of Winston-Salem. A funeral service will be held 2:00 P.M. Friday, March 21, 2014 at Whitley's Funeral Home Main Chapel. A military graveside will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Thursday evening, March 20, 2014 at Whitley's Funeral Home. Memorials can be made to the Cabarrus County Honor Guard P.O. Box 384 Concord, NC 28026.
