Mentie Whitley Kearns

Obituary: Mrs. Mentie Whitley Kearns, 96, of Kannapolis went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at Caremoor Retirement Center following a period of declining health. She was born March 15, 1919 in Stanly County, NC a daughter of the late Lemmie Hose Whitley and Eva Frances Harward Whitley. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Mortel Kearns who died June 11, 2003, a daughter, Mary Katherine Joyner, Nine brothers and four sisters also preceded her in death. Mrs. Kearns was a member of Lawyer Springs Primitive Baptist Church in Peachland, NC. She retired from Cannon Mills Co. Plant #1, Sheet Dept. in 1982 with forty-three years of service. She enjoyed gardening and cooking. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Friday, May 1, 2015 at Whitley's Funeral Home Main Chapel. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Running Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Locust, NC. Survivors include her son, J.B Kearns and wife Betty of Kannapolis, daughter, Frances Wilson and husband James of Ellenboro, NC. Nine grandchildren, seventeen great- grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren also survive.
