Merle Dean Bonds

Obituary: Kannapolis- Merle Dean Bonds, 78, passed away peacefully Thursday morning, September 14, 2017 at Tucker Hospice House. Born in Cabarrus County on July 17, 1939, he was a son of the late William Coil and Eva Hollar Bonds. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers Horace and Boyce Bonds and his sister Lorene Taylor. Merle was a 1957 graduate of A.L. Brown High. He had earlier worked 10 years for Cannon Mills, later retiring after 31 years of loyal service from Hoechst-Celanese. Mr. Bonds was a member of Crown Point Baptist Church. A loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather, he enjoyed watching westerns, NASCAR and sports on TV. Family members left to cherish his memory include his wife Joyce L. Bonds; his children Barry Bonds (Penny) and Julie Lambert (Kevin); his six grandchildren, Jason Bonds (Jayme), Justin and Jeremy Bonds, Matt, Kadi (Ronnie) and Emily Lambert; his great-grandchildren, Corbin Mearl Bonds, Katelynn, Savannah, Jennifer, Jacob and Logan Bonds, Leland Lambert, Rylan and Alexis Carroll, and Alyssa, Lily-Grace and Payton Leonard; and nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Sunday, September 17th from 2:00-3:00 pm at Whitley's Funeral Home. Funeral services to remember and celebrate Mr. Bond's life will begin at 3:00 pm in the funeral home chapel, conducted by Rev. Gene Beaver. Burial will follow in Carolina Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Crown Point Baptist Church, POB 1387, Kannapolis, NC 28082 or to Hospice of Cabarrus County, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC 28081.
