Obituary: Merle Dendy Sloan, 88, of Kannapolis passed away on May 29, 2018 at her home. She was born May 10, 1930 in Cuthbert, Georgia, a daughter of the late William Steiner Dendy and Ethel Atwood Dendy. She was preceded in death by husband of 63 years, Earl D. Sloan, Sr., brother, Thomas G. Dendy and sister, Joyce Dendy Lowery. Merle was a 1948 graduate of JW Cannon High School. She was owner of Sloan Tax Service and Secretary of Jackson Park United Methodist Church for many years. She was an active member of Jackson Park UMC since 1963. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, June 9, 2018 at Carolina Memorial Park. Merle is survived by daughter, Kimerly Edwards (Jim) of Forest City, grandson, Ben Edwards; son, Dwight Sloan (Debra) of Kannapolis, granddaughters, Melody Sloan and Miranda Farmer (Jonathan); daughter, Cheryl Cornwell (Chris) of Athens, Ga., granddaughters, Caitlin Cornwell, Sallie Cornwell, grandson, Samuel Cornwell (Lindsay), great grandson, Tilden Cornwell, great granddaughter, Everly Mae Cornwell; daughter, Kelly Carnes (Keith) of Concord, grandson, Luke Torreano, son, Eric Sloan of Kannapolis, sister, Leslie Dendy Patton (Hugh) of Kannapolis.
