Obituary: Merle Wayne Earley, 67, of Salisbury, formerly of Kannapolis, died unexpectedly Sunday, October 5, 2014, due to natural causes. His funeral will be held at 7:00 PM Monday, October 13, at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ronnie Peele officiating. His family will receive friends at the funeral home 2 hours prior to the funeral starting at 5:00 PM on Monday. Burial will take place at 2:00 PM Wednesday, October 15 at the Salisbury National Cemetery. Merle was born December 9, 1946 in Cabarrus Co., the son of the late Walter and Mary Pressley Earley. He graduated from A. L. Brown High School and served in the US Army Rangers during the Vietnam War Era. Later he worked as an officer with the NC Dept. of Corrections and as a security officer for several local companies. Merle enjoyed going to the YMCA, watching NASCAR races and sporting events on TV. He was a loving father and grandfather and will be dearly missed. He is survived by 2 sons; Steve Earley (Wendy) of China Grove and Lee Earley (Amanda) of Kannapolis and 7 grandchildren; Gabriel, Michael, Dylan, Caleb, Blake, Braxton and Olivia.
