Merlee Daniels Abernathy

Obituary: Kannapolis, NC- On September 29, 2011 another saint was added to the rolls of our Heavenly Father. A special and loving mother and grandmother, Merlee Daniels Abernathy passed from this earth to be with our Eternal Father in heaven. Merlee will be greatly missed but never forgotten and will dwell forever in the hearts of her children and grandchildren. Merlee was preceded in death by her parents, Clate and Pearl Wilhelm Daniels and her husband Amos C. Abernathy. She is survived by her four children; Michael C. Abernathy and his wife Laura of China Grove, Tony L. Abernathy and his wife Pat of Kannapolis, Steven D. Abernathy and his wife Jane of Mooresville, and Amy Abernathy Price and her husband Randy of Kannapolis; seven grandchildren; Katie Price Griffin and her husband David, Alexandria Abernathy Storey and her husband Eric, Samantha Abernathy, Travis Price, Meghan Abernathy, Brandon Abernathy, and Bailey Abernathy; and her sister Jean Daniels Freeman and her husband James of Raleigh, NC. Merlee was born on September 9, 1932 in Cabarrus County and was a lifelong resident of Kannapolis, graduating from Cannon High School in 1950. She attended Evan Business School and worked at Cannon Mills for forty-five years. She was a loyal lifelong member of Kimball Memorial Lutheran Church in Kannapolis. Visitation will be Sunday, October 2, 2011 from 1-3 p.m. in the commons at Kimball Memorial Lutheran Church. The funeral service will follow at 3:00 p.m. in the sanctuary. Internment at Carolina Memorial Park will follow the memorial service. Pastor Richard Rhoades of Kimball Memorial Lutheran Church and Reverend Bill Honeycutt of Landis Baptist Church will conduct the services. Memorials may be made to the Kimball Memorial Lutheran Church Building Fund. Prior to the funeral, the family will be at Merlee's home, 102 Dale Avenue in Kannapolis.
