Michael Wayne Gainey

Michael "Wayne" Gainey, Sr., 63, of Kannapolis, passed away unexpectedly September 29, 2021 at his home after a brief illness.
Born on January 17, 1958 in Darlington, SC; Wayne was one of 15 children belonging to the late Boyd and Kathleen Hall Gainey. In addition to his parents, Wayne is preceded in death by his brother, George Gainey.
Wayne is survived by his wife of 44 years, Jo Ann Talbert Gainey, his son, Michael Gainey, Jr (Colleen) of Midland and his daughter, Jessica Gainey of Kannapolis. Wayne is also survived by his 7 brothers and 6 sisters and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Wayne moved here as a young child and grew up working on the Messimer family dairy farm and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Later Wayne worked maintenance at Cannon Mills and Wagner Plastics in Huntersville.
A celebration of life service will be held Thursday, October 7 at 4:00 PM at Whitley's Funeral Home Annex Chapel with Rev. Richard Blount officiating. The family will receive friends at the annex chapel following the service.
