James “Michael” Hartis, 71, of China Grove, passed away Friday afternoon, December 17, 2021, at Atrium Health Cabarrus.
Born June 23, 1950, in Rowan County, Michael was the son of the late Henry Leo and Pearl Ramelle Liles Hartis.
Michael was a 1968 graduate of South Rowan High and a 1972 graduate of UNCC, where he majored in English. He had earlier worked for China Grove Cotton Mill, later working for Spectrum Dyed Yarns in Kings Mountain, holding various positions with both. Mr. Hartis was a Tar Heel fan, loved his John Deere tractor, adored his grandchildren and attended Community Church of Mt. Pleasant. A loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother, Mr. Hartis will be greatly missed by his family, his friends and all who knew and loved him.
Family members left with cherished memories include his beloved wife of 46 years, Judy Ewing Hartis; his daughters, Laura Beth Barnhart (Kelly) and Julia Chrismon (Glenn); his grandchildren, Jacob Barnhart, and Macey and Callie Chrismon; and his sister, Janice Hartis.
A gathering of friends to remember Mr. Hartis will be held from 4:00-7:00 pm Wednesday, December 22nd at Whitley’s Funeral Home.
