Michael “Mike” Lee Hurst, 78, of Salisbury, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 3, 2021 at his son’s residence.
Mike was born September 13, 1942 in Rowan Co., a son of the late Don and Ruby Lanning Hurst. In addition to his parents Mike was preceded in death by his first wife, Brenda Safrit Hurst.
Mike was a lifelong area resident. He was a member of Charity Baptist Church, where he attended the Kingdom Seekers Sunday school class and helped his wife Kay, with the Charity Baptist church Joy Seniors. He was a 50 year member of Keller Memorial Masonic Lodge in Rockwell. He retired after 33 years as an engineer for Norfolk Southern Railroad. Mike had a passion for trains and all things railroad related. He enjoyed fishing, baseball, working in his yard and always kept his cars clean and shining. Mike was a talented member of Yadkin Valley Baseball League. Most of all he loved his family and enjoyed watching them play sports.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 12 years Kay Campbell Hurst, his sons; Michael David Hurst (Tonia) of Salisbury, Mercer Todd Hurst (Stacey) of Yorktown VA., Timothy Readling (Jennine) of Concord and daughter, Tamra Caldwell (Allen) of Mooresville as well as 14 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 P.M. Saturday, February 6, 2021 at Charity Baptist Church in Kannapolis. Due to pandemic please wear masks and practice social distancing protocols.
