Michael Lee Porter

Obituary: Michael Lee Porter, 58, passed away Thursday afternoon, May 24, 2018 in Richburg, SC, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Born November 11, 1959 in Myrtle Beach, SC, Michael was a son of the late Charlie and Geraldine Collom Porter. Michael had received associate degrees in business and HVAC from Rowan Cabarrus Community College. He had retired, due to disability, from Goodyear Tire and Rubber in Statesville. A member of New Bethany Baptist Church in Statesville, Mr. Porter enjoyed fishing and target shooting. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Family members include his wife, Edith Pethel Porter; his daughter, Tonya Morris of Myrtle Beach; step-sons, Chris Pethel of Kannapolis and Michael Pethel (Susan) of Arden; brother Charlie "Hotshot" Porter, Jr. of Arden; his sisters Barbara Fullwood (Sonny) of Conway and Suzie Owens (Allen) of Gaston, SC; grandchildren Nate and Adam Morris; and his step-grandchildren Matthew and Ryan Pethel. The family will receive friends Tuesday, May 29th from 12:00-2:00 pm at Whitley's Funeral Home, 1748 Dale Earnhardt Blvd., Kannapolis, NC. Funeral services to remember and celebrate the life of Mr. Porter will begin at 2:00 pm in the funeral home chapel, conducted by the Revs. Bill Mason and Fred Carlton. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park Cemetery in Kannapolis.
