Michael Dewayne Steele

Michael DeWayne Steele, 77 years old, of China Grove, went to be with his Lord on June 8, 2024.  Michael was born on May 30, 1947, in Cabarrus County to the late Harvey and Ruby Hedrick Steele.

Michael attended Winecoff High School and then entered the military.  Michael proudly served his country and is a decorated Viet Nam veteran that received the Purple Heart and two Bronze Stars.  Michael retired as a carpenter.  In his spare time, he was an outdoorsman and avid hunter.

Michael was predeceased by his brother, Donald Ray Steele and his sister, Bobbie Goodnight.  Those left to cherish his memory are his sons, Michael DeWayne Steele, II, and Kevin Steele and his wife Amy; his daughters, Kelly Lipscomb and her husband Chris, and Melissa Steele; his sister, Pat Payne; his eleven grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and friends.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, from 1-2pm at Whitley’s Funeral Home.  A 2pm funeral service will follow in the Whitley Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Pastor Cody Zorn.  Michael will be laid to rest with military honors on Thursday, June 20, 2024, 2pm at Salisbury National Cemetery.
