Mickie (Gagnon) Montgomery

Mickie Gagnon Montgomery passed away February 18, 2022 at Atrium Health Cabarrus after a period of declining health .

Her funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM Thursday, February 24 at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Whitley's Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 23 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.

She was born on July 29, 1948 in Ogdensburg, NY, a daughter of the Late John and Mabel Kelley Gagnon. In addition to her parents, Mickie is preceded in death by her brother John Gagnon and her son-in-law Shannon Edward Moore.

Mickie moved to this area with her husband Dave in 1990 from Syracuse NY, where she was the first employee of Ryan Foot and Ankle Clinic and worked for Dr. Michael Ryan and several other wonderful doctors in his practice for over 30 years. She was on the Rehab patient and Family Advisory Council at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital for stroke patients. She loved spending her time participating in the Atrium Health's Path to Wellness program at the West Cabarrus YMCA. She was a strong supporter of her grandchildren's passions. You could always find her at the ball field, volleyball court, or the race track cheering them on. She was an inspiration to all her family and everyone she met. She suffered a lot of obstacles later in life but showed everyone how much determination she had to not only meet her goals but exceed them using the motto NEVER NEVER QUIT. She loved to spend time with her family and was happiest when she was cooking for all of them. Mickie was a loving and devoted wife, mother grandmother and sister. She will be dearly missed.

Mickie is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 53 years, Dave Montgomery of the home; her four daughters, Melissa Murray (Scott) of Mooresville; Melinda Hefti (Peter) of Kannapolis; Dawn Moore of Concord and Jillian Alston (Lewis) of Cumming GA, her 7 grandchildren; Mara Murray, Robert Hefti (fiancée Charlotte), Hailey Hefti, Matt and Brandon Moore and Ryley and Samantha Alston, her sister, Patsy French (Ronnie) and brother, Daniel Gagnon (Sylvia) both of Ogdensburg NY as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
