Obituary: Mildred Rogers Austin, 96, of Concord, formerly of Kannapolis, died Monday, July 2, 2018 at Five Oaks Manor, after a period of declining health. Her funeral will be held at 12:00 PM Friday, July 6 at Whitley's Funeral Chapel with Rev Charles Barrier and Rev. Tracey Love officiating. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. Her visitation will be held at Whitley's Funeral Home from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Mildred was born November 6, 1921 in Rowan County, a daughter of the late Clarence and Mary Wilson Rogers. In addition to her parents, Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, Ed Austin and her sister, Kathleen Rogers Barrier. Mildred moved to Baltimore with her family in 1944 and was a "Rosie Riveter" at the Glenn L. Martin Company in 1944-45. She moved back to Kannapolis with her family in 1946 and they joined Midway Methodist Church where she was active in the Women's Circle. Mildred was employed by Cannon Mills for many years, until she retired. She lived a very simple life and enjoyed spending time with her family. Mildred is survived by 3 nephews; Charles Barrier (Marilyn) of Stanley, Ralph Barrier (LaDonna) of Concord and David Barrier (Erika) of Concord and her niece, Ann B. Little (David) of High Point. She is also survived by 6 grandnieces and nephews and 3 great-grand nieces and nephews.
