Kannapolis

Mildred Sue Henderson Hallford, 90, of Kannapolis died Christmas Day 2019 at St. Andrew’s Assisted Living Center in Concord after a period of declining health, but her death was still unexpected.

A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at Whitley’s Funeral Home Chapel at 3:00 PM Sunday, Dec. 29 with Rev. Charlie Littlejohn officiating. Her family will receive friends at Whitley’s Funeral Home immediately following her memorial service.

Mildred was born March 10, 1929 in Cleveland GA, a daughter of the late Bill Henderson and Willie Brewer Henderson Greenway. In addition to her parents and stepfather, Clarence Greenway; Mildred was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years and love of her life, “Junior” William Hallford, Jr., her son, Mark Hallford, her son-in-law, Michael Rouse, her granddaughter, Jenna E. McLain, her brother, Dwight Greenway, and her sisters; Vera Isenhour and Barbara Cobb.

She was a long-time area resident and an actively committed member of Shadybrook Baptist Church; singing in the choir and serving in the nursery. In earlier years she worked in the receiving dept. at F. W. Woolworth in Kannapolis. She then worked many years for Cannon Mills Co. as a sheet hemmer. Mildred loved to bake and decorate cakes, canning and camping with her husband and children in the mountains and at the beach. She had a strong faith in Jesus Christ and was a loving and devoted wife, mother of four, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be deeply missed.

Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Gregory William Hallford of Kannapolis, her daughters; Sheila H. McLain (Mike) of Concord and Deborah H. Rouse of Kannapolis, her three grandchildren; Crystal Branem of Huntersville, Amber James of Salisbury and Zachary McLain of Stanfield and two great-grandchildren; Waylon and Emarie.
