Obituary: - Milton James Knickerbocker, age 81, passed away unexpectedly at his home in his sleep on Monday, August 24, 2015. Milton was born January 27, 1934 in Broome County, NY, the son of the late Milton James Knickerbocker and Lillian Huntley Knickerbocker. He moved to North Carolina to be close to his son, James, in 2001. Milton was employed with the Union Endicott School District for fifteen years. He was also a corporal in the US Army having served during the Korean Conflict. He was a life member of VFW post 1449 in Endicott, N.Y. and a associate of VFW post 8989 in Kannapolis, N.C. His family fondly remembers his love of trout fishing and hunting throughout the years. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife, Joan Marie Knickerbocker. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Thursday, 27, 2015 at Whitley's Funeral Home, Kannapolis, NC. Burial will be at a later date in New York. Survivors include his two sons, James Knickerbocker (Carol) of Mooresville, NC and Timothy Knickerbocker (Kim) of Tacoma, WA; four step-daughters, Cindy & Lennie Rittenburg, Paula & Dean Buemi, Christine McGraw, and Karen Wagoner, all of New York; grandchildren, Justine Crowley, Tessa Knickerbocker, Christopher Austin (Samantha Fowler), Ashley & Derrick Overcash, and Amy Therrell; several great-grandchildren; and one brother, Gary Knickerbocker (Dixie) of Conklin, NY.
